COVID-19 and CARES ACT Disclaimer

Cares Act

Angeles Institute (Angeles) has distributed thousands of dollars in emergency financial aid grants to its students under a provision of the federal CARES Act designed to help students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Angeles-administered grants were made possible by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) established pursuant to Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

In May 2020, Angeles was awarded $159,797 from HEERF with the requirement that those funds be distributed to students as emergency financial aid grants. As of July 27, 2020, the institute had disbursed $157,927 of emergency financial aid grants to students. Angeles also set aside $1,870, the remaining HEERF balance, to fund supplemental grants to students who demonstrated higher need.

The estimated total number of students at Angeles potentially eligible to receive the emergency financial aid grants is 90. The institute reports 87 students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under the CARES Act.

The emergency grant amounts that Angeles students received were determined by a formula that incorporated Department of Education guidelines, Pell Grant eligibility, and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated in FAFSA applications submitted for the 2019/20 academic year.

Angeles sent notices by email to eligible Angeles students about how the grants were being disbursed and provided updates to its public website.

NOTE: Angeles Institute is providing this information to demonstrate compliance with requirements of the CARES Act for institutions receiving allocations from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.

NOTICE TO STUDENTS

Dear Angeles Student:

Angeles Institute (Angeles) has distributed thousands of dollars in emergency financial aid grants to its students under a provision of the federal CARES Act designed to help students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Angeles-administered grants were made possible by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) established pursuant to Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

In May 2020, Angeles was awarded $159,797 from HEERF with the requirement that those funds be distributed to students as emergency financial aid grants. The estimated total number of students at Angeles potentially eligible to receive the emergency financial aid grants is 90. The emergency grant amounts that Angeles students received were determined by a formula that incorporated Department of Education guidelines, Pell Grant eligibility, and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated in FAFSA applications submitted for the 2019/20 academic year.  The disbursement criteria was as follows:

All who were enrolled and attending a Title IV eligible program and are recipients of Title IV funds (Pell, Direct Loan or PLUS) as of 3/20/2020 receive 50% of an annual Pell disbursement with a minimum of $1000 per Pell eligible student and $750 to all not eligible for Pell. Including students who withdrew after 3/20/2020.

All students scheduled to return or to begin enrollment between 3/21/2020 and 6/1/2020 that actually attended at least 40 hours receive $500.
